Mid-life vs Quarter-life

WHILST reading the Times Online today I noticed '11 holidays to solve the mid-life crisis', which got me thinking. Those in the midst of a mid-life crisis have a distinct advantage over those experiencing a 20-something psychological meltdown: money.

As the young and dissatisfied daydream of their big plans, anxious mums and dads are breaking into their savings, easing the psychological strain of an expanding midriff and an empty nest. I don't mean to belittle the turmoil of this transitional period, but the desire to make significant changes in one's life often involves a decent pay packet.

The piggy bank was demolished several years ago for the majority of students and once you reach your mid-twenties the bank of mum and dad has closed its doors. There is the odd situation where an emergency withdrawal is available, money likely to be ear-marked to ease their own mid-life crisis, but this involves pangs of guilt and failure; you're way too old for this now, what happened to standing on your own two feet?

So how do you solve your quarter-life crisis?

Suggestions welcome.
